Congratulations on your assignment to Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) University of California, Berkeley. On behalf of the entire command I would like to welcome you and provide you with some basic information regarding NROTC UC Berkeley.
You are joining an exceptional program with a long and distinguished history. Our unit was founded in 1926 as one of the original six NROTC units in the country by Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, who went on to serve as Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet and Pacific Ocean Areas during World War II and as the 10th Chief of Naval Operations. In fulfilling our mission to develop future officers mentally, morally, and physically, we aspire to follow a Fleet Admiral Nimitz leadership theory—the attributes of loyalty, discipline, and devotion to duty on the part of the subordinates must be matched by patience, tolerance, and understanding on the part of superiors.
NROTC UC Berkeley is made up of midshipmen from four universities across northern California: University of California, Berkeley; Stanford University; University of California, Davis; and California State University Maritime Academy. We also serve as the host command for duty under instruction officers taking part in professional and educational programs at the elite businesses, medical facilities, and academic institutions across the Bay Area.
Please browse our website as it contains useful information regarding what to expect as a member of our unit and a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions. Be sure to check out the MyNavy Family mobile application, a one-stop shop for Navy spouses and Sailors’ families. The application combines official information from more than 22 websites that contain information and resources to help Navy families navigate the complexities of the Navy lifestyle. For further details and answers to any questions or concerns specific to you and your family's transition to our command, please email the unit; active-duty staff and duty under instruction personnel should email the executive officer, Major Adam Craig or call him at (510) 725-2593.
Again, welcome to NROTC UC Berkeley! I look forward to meeting you upon your arrival. It’s great to have you on the team!
